I was looking forward to writing this post so I thought I'd get it up pretty quickly, the main reason being that having breast augmentation (enlargement) was one of the most positive decisions I have ever made. I had my surgery back in October 2013 with MYA Cosmetics, and although it was something I had thought about earlier on in the year, I basically decided within a week that I wanted it done. In just a month I had a consultation with a patient co-coordinator, one with the surgeon (Dr Frati) and finally a pre surgery appointment with a nurse to make sure I was healthy to go ahead with the procedure. I was a woman on a mission you could say!
You wouldn't be wrong in thinking that this is not a cheap procedure, and it's not cheap at all! I had my surgery back in 2013 for a little over £4000 but the price has increased since. I was 21, I had a minimum wage job and no savings... but there is a way. Most cosmetic procedure companies now offer finance to those who don't have the money upfront. I paid a very small deposit, it was meant to be £500, but my patient coordinator allowed me to pay £200 so I could get an earlier date with the surgeon. Shamefully, I have still not paid them off....
This is a me with my pre surgery boobs!
The lead up to surgery was very exciting, every day felt like a month and I was getting increasingly enthusiastic reading through the MYA forum which anyone can become a member of. The forum is a great way of speaking with other girls who are considering/waiting for surgery, and also those who have had it. At this time none of my friends had had a boob job, not the case now! Opinions seemed to be split, lots of girls having a lovely pain free chilled week off to rest their new boobies, and the other half who seemed to be in agony, unable to do anything for themselves, some even unable to eat and having to return to the hospital. Bearing that in mind the nerves didn't set in until the night before my surgery, I couldn't eat from about 10pm also so it was a long hungry night of waiting before my journey to the hospital.
I had to leave my house about 6am as I was due in the hospital first thing and I lived just over an hour away from it. I couldn't explain my relief when I was told I was the first patient Dr Frati would be operating on, which meant that I shouldn't be discharged too late in the day. The hospital was amazing... it's private so of course it is, the staff were very helpful and although Dr Frati is a man of very few words, he seems to make you feel at ease. I won't lie, by the time I was walked down to the operating room by a very friendly nurse I was pretty scared, I had never had any surgery other than a very AWFUL tonsillectomy and I hated needles so much so that the injection for the anaesthesia was my main concern! With the help of friendly staff though I was very calm and the next thing I know is I woke up with boobs and was shivering cold.... this was because of an ice pack!
I went in an out of a sleepy daze for a good hour or two even after returning to the room, but once I'd come round properly I was ecstatic... Dr Frati uses very tight bandages called strapping which stay on for a week which is so upsetting when all you want to do is peak at your new boobs but it seems to be a very good way of looking after them. I had a small drain coming out of each breast, and to be completely honest after the pain killers I was given (not sure what!) I felt amazing I couldn't feel pain they were just very hot and numb, I was out of the hospital by 7pm after having the drains removed at my bedside.
That evening I slept OK, you cant lay on your side which is generally how I sleep which was a little awkward but again I think the pain killers were still in my system I slept like a baby!
This was them on the evening after returning home -
The next morning I was stiff, I sat up by myself tho, and walked downstairs to see my mum for some painkillers but I wasn't in agony.
The view was amazing!
I took a few tablets and surprise surprise they knocked me out. The truth is for the next 5 days all I did was sleep and eat, very little and I actually lost weight during surgery! I was just so tired but I wasn't in pain I was just a little stiff, on the 6th day I went out on a date in my bandages so I'm going to say I was one of the lucky ones! I had the bandages removed on the 8th day and seeing them for the first time was amazing, i just couldn't wait to slap some fake tan on!
This was me without a bra on just 2 weeks after surgery!
As the weeks went on, they settled and within 12 weeks I had pretty natural looking boobs which I'm kinda sad about. BOOB GREED is most definitely a thing, lots of girls seem to want them bigger afterwards.... I have looked into this but I haven't had any further work done on them just yet! Pretty much as soon as I came round from surgery I was in love, the reason I wanted breast augmentation was because I had lost 4 stone and all the fat and elasticity seemed to have gone from my breasts leaving them pretty empty looking. The confidence I felt and still feel now from them is something all the money in the world is worth. Since I have had my surgery lots of other friends have also had the same procedure and I think it's safe to say no one has been disappointed.
Finally a picture of me without a bra over 3 years on, I've never looked back!
